Self Reviewing Questions......Not good.

Wow, using the self-review questions really lowered my self-confidence in writing and makes me realize that I have a lot to learn.  Writing has always been a huge weakness for me; they say that we are our own worst enemy and at this time, that statement couldn’t be any truer.  After answering those questions, I realized that I left out things that are needed to make my paper complete. I have been worried about this paper from the very beginning, but I will take the criticism and move on to becoming a more efficient writer; hopefully. I feeling pretty silly now.

  1. Sarah, don't feel silly! The self-review process has achieved its purpose! Which is to help you identify ways to improve your draft (and your writing in general). I've revised some of my papers about 20 times before finally declaring them "finished." Revision is a critical, time-consuming, difficult endeavor if done properly. So your feelings suggest that you've done it right! :)

  2. Sarah,
I felt the exact same way while reviewing my work using the self-review questions. I thought that my rough draft was fairly well written until I analyzed it using these questions. I realized, like you, that I have a lot to learn. I learned that I need to focus more on my thesis statement and pay closer attention to details.

  3. Sarah, I have to agree with what you said. I was very confident and proud of my writing until about question 4 of the self review. It was then that I started to panic. I kept thinking, "Oh no! I really dropped the ball on this one," and even emailed Dr Sentell to help clarify some of the problems I had found. It was then that I realized that was the whole point of the self review. It was to make us break our writing down into smaller manageable parts and see where we could improve not just this paper but our writing in general. Although it was kinda scary at the time, I am glad we did that assignment because it gave me the opportunities to see where I was falling short in my writing from a college standpoint, something I think we all need to be aware of because I would assume we all have quite a few papers in the remainder of our college careers.
